My recent home upgrade in Reading
I needed a bespoke home bar after hosting a party where we lacked space. I decided to search near Forbury Gardens.
I stumbled upon the site while browsing and emailed photos. Central Bedroom and Kitchens replied with a price that seemed fair for the work.
The journey of planning this project was actually quite involved. I spent many hours reflecting on the configuration of the room before ever choosing up the phone. My lounge area has constantly felt slightly incomplete, and owning a dedicated area for beverages seemed like the perfect fix to that problem. I remember standing in my kitchen staring at a cluttered surface filled with bottles and feeling that something had to shift. The initial conversation with the team was extremely simple, which gave me assurance. We talked various aesthetics, from contemporary minimalist looks to more traditional and wooden finishes. I was really impressed by how many detail they wanted regarding the dimensions and the current interior of my home. It seemed like they genuinely wanted the final product to blend seamlessly with the balance of the building. I offered multiple views in the images I uploaded, making sure each corner was clear. They explained that the custom nature of the unit meant that accuracy was entirely critical to avoid any issues during the installation. We moved back and forth on possible materials, searching at swatches of quartz and different kinds of wood patterns. It is surprising how much thought goes into picking the correct handles, like pulls and fittings, which can completely alter the feel of the entire construction. I wanted a place where I might comfortably prepare drinks for guests without needing to constantly dash back to the kitchen for lemons or tools. The ease of having all items in a single spot was the primary driver for this investment. We finalised the design after a brief meeting where all my concerns regarding wiring and lighting points were addressed. I liked that they did not rush the design phase, taking the effort to make sure that the width of the shelving was enough for my largest glassware. It seemed like a collaborative effort instead than a simple sale, which is hard to find these days.
The installation date arrived faster than anticipated, and the technician was on time and ready. He began by placing down safety sheets to ensure my carpet stayed clean. Watching the components being unpacked was interesting, as the quality of the wood was immediately evident. He carefully verified the levels of the walls before attaching the base frame of the unit. I observed as the structure gradually gained shape, transforming a plain corner into a practical feature. The degree of craftsmanship involved in fitting the boards to the uneven surfaces of my period home was impressive. He mentioned how each section fitted together to create total strength. We wasted a bit of time deciding on the exact height for the built-in cooler, ensuring it was easy to open but tucked away from main view. The fitting of the worktop was the highly rewarding part of the whole process. Seeing the polished top at last resting on the base made the vision come real. He then fitted the glass backing, which instantly made the space to look twice the size. The LEDs were connected afterward, and testing them for the first time was a thrill. The warm light below the shelves showcased the glassware beautifully. I could see precisely how useful this would be during night events. The fitter was highly careful, taking the effort to clean down each surface and remove any debris created during the drilling. He additionally demonstrated me how to adjust the racks if I ever wanted to store bigger items. The attention to precision was truly exceptional, right down to the silicone beads around the joins. It was clear that he took great pride in his craft, which is consistently good to witness. We conducted a last inspection of the finished work to make everything was to standard. I noted that one handle was slightly loose, and he tightened it straight away with a quick turn of a screwdriver. This diligence is exactly what I was hoping for when I booked the job.
The finished bar appears completely amazing and has become the focal point of my downstairs. It offers a sophisticated feel that had been formerly lacking from my reception space. The storage is immense, allowing me to sort all my liquors, mixers, and specialist glasses in a cohesive place. No longer do I have to search through cluttered kitchen shelves to locate a corkscrew or a certain kind of glass. Everything has its proper home, which renders hosting much much easier and stress-free. I enjoy the way the finishes reflect the sunlight in the evenings, making a warm ambience. My friends have already complimented the setup several times, with some even inquiring for the details of the company who built it. It really feels like a bespoke extra tailored exactly for my needs. The elevation of the countertop is ideal for standing by with a drink, and the integrated LED strips provide just the right level of illumination without being overpowering. Even when not in operation, it works as a beautiful piece of furniture that elevates the whole look of the house. I spent a bit effort arranging my bottles on the racks to make a pleasing arrangement. The mirrored back really assist in showcasing the bottles and giving depth to the small alcove. It has inspired me to try creating different drinks that I before thought were too fussy to attempt in a normal setting. Having the tap close would have been nice, but the area constraints meant we opted against it to save cabinet room. This was a conscious decision we made at the design phase, and I certainly not rue it. The additional cupboard space for straws and accessories is much more valuable to me in the long term.
There were a couple of minor limitations that are worth mentioning for a balanced perspective. The lead period for the custom panels was a bit longer than I originally wanted. It took about six days from the initial deposit to the actual fitting appointment. While this is expected for high-quality work, it meant a bit of patience on my part. I had wanted to have it finished for a certain birthday, but we passed that date by a few days. However, the updates from the office regarding the progress was consistent, so I was never left in the unknowing. I would hold a bit more for a product that is built to last than have a hasty work that breaks after a few months. The initial cost estimate was additionally a little lower than the final invoice, mostly because I decided to upgrade the hardware and include extra internal lighting midway during the process. These adjustments were completely my choice, and the team was very transparent about the additional fees required. Another small issue was the amount of boxes remaining following the install. Although the technician cleaned up the work area perfectly, there was a significant pile of cardboard to dispose of in my bins. It was not a big deal, but a thing to consider if you possess little waste space. Despite these small details, the overall journey was very good. The quality of the finish is far superior to anything I might have bought from a shop. It seems solid and durable, and I am confident it will handle decades of parties. I believe the value it has added to my property well outweighs the upfront outlay. It has changed the way I use my living space, making it far more inviting. I not anymore feel cramped when friends come over.
Thinking back on the whole project, I am truly glad I opted forward with it. The initial spark came from a visit to a neighbour's place in London, where they had a comparable setup. I realised then how greatly it improved the movement of the party. When I got back to Reading, I began looking for local firms and found that going with a bespoke outfit was the best route to achieve the precise style I wanted. The chance to choose every element, from the colour of the paint to the position of the plug sockets, ensured the final result was exactly as I pictured. I also got a small hidden drawer included for keeping expensive items like silver spoons. This kind of personalisation is what renders the experience special. It didn't feel like a generic piece being forced into a space where it did not belong. Instead, it feels like it has always been a segment of the house. If you are considering a like-minded home improvement, my tip would be to remain patient and invest the time on the design part. It is much easier to change a drawing than it is to modify a unit once it is built. The knowledge offered at the beginning was crucial in stopping me from doing common mistakes, such as putting the fridge too close to a radiator. These small bits of advice are what you buy for when you hire skilled experts. I am currently planning at different parts of my home to see where further I could add built-in storage. The success of this fitted project has given me the drive to start a larger task in the bedroom later year. It has been a great upgrade to my life, and I look forward to many years of enjoying it with family and friends. Finding the right balance between style and use was the aim, and I think we reached it completely. The process from a cluttered alcove to a stylish hosting hub was well deserving the time and money spent. I now possess a space that I am truly proud to show with to others. Reading has some great places to visit for a drink, but honestly, I now prefer being at my place and using my own personal bar. It provides the identical feel without the crowds or the commute. That alone was worth the entire undertaking. I am very pleased with how the lighting functions in the evening, providing a chill environment to unwind after a long shift at work. It is the little treats like this that render house life much rewarding and fulfilling. I highly appreciate the craft that was put into the finished result. The way the panels close with a silent thud tells volumes about the construction level. No detail was overlooked, and the final appearance is exactly what I hoped it would be when I first began this process. It is a testament to the skill of the team and the quality of fitted bar the components used. I am a truly satisfied customer.
